Tomás's House  (3 pictures)

Tomás and his kids live in a compound of two houses and a separate apartment in a nice area of Mexico City called Guadalupe Inn. Most everyone lives close by — Tante Waltraut lives a few blocks away as do Margot and her family, who live around the corner from where my grandparents lived 60 years ago. We usually stay in the "kids' house," but because there was a problem with the natural gas supply (thus no hot water or cooking) and because of the forthcoming nuptials, we stayed at Margot's house instead.

Here's a view of the yard, with the two houses on the right.

A view of the "kids' house." The patio to the left (where the floor tiles are) connects the two houses. Tomás had it built to his specifications so it could be used as a small outdoor theater. The concrete wall at the back of the patio has a little area behind it from which actors can come out onto the patio-stage.

Another view of Tomás's house, showing some more of the patio.
